In autumn and winter we train in the hall at SP No. 45, 3 Harcerska Street: Mondays and Wednesdays, kids 5:30–7:00 p.m., adults 7:00–8:30 p.m. In spring we move outside. Until now we've trained then at the TKKF field, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. We announce the current times before the season changes, so it's worth confirming them before your first visit.
The hall isn't a worse version of baseball, just a different stage of the year. Outside, the longer throws come back, along with catching balls in the air and running the bases on a full diamond. Indoors we work on the things there often isn't time for on the field.
A typical session on the grass
Every session has the same basic frame, but what goes into it changes from week to week:
- Warm-up: running, mobility and coordination, 10–15 minutes, so the body is ready for throwing and sprinting.
- Catch in pairs: the foundation of baseball. We practise throwing mechanics, aiming and catching over longer and longer distances.
- Stations: hitting off a tee, soft toss, fielding (ground balls and fly balls). The groups rotate so nobody stands around doing nothing.
- Game situations: running the bases, positioning in defence, cut-offs. We practise what actually happens in real games.
- Game or scrimmage: when the group is ready, we finish with a short game to put it all together.
Why spring is a good time to start
The season is only just opening, the groups are forming, the coaches have time for individual corrections, and newcomers join on the same terms as everyone else. There's no need to wait until September. The sooner you start, the more repetitions you get on the full field.
If you're only just getting to know baseball, have a look at what to bring to your first session. For adults, we recommend our guide to how to start baseball in Poznań.
Weather
We play in a light drizzle, but not in a storm or on an unsafe surface. When the weather rules out a session, we let people know on the club's channels. We don't expect a hundred per cent attendance, because life doesn't revolve only around baseball (though it could).
On the field, dress in layers and bring a cap and some water. Cleats aren't compulsory at the start. We explain what to buy and when in the gear guide.
Winter and spring are one season
The hall in winter and the grass in spring are one year of work, not two separate sports. We write about the match calendar in the article on the baseball season in Poland, and about working without a full field in the one on winter training.
The best way to understand what it's like is simply to come along. The equipment is there, and the coach will match the task to your level, so nobody ends up in a full game from the first minute.
